Is the Whirlpool EveryDrop Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) NSF certified?

Whirlpool’s EveryDrop Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) returned no certification listing under Whirlpool’s or EveryDrop’s name in the NSF, IAPMO R&T or WQA databases when we checked on 7 August 2026, even though the filter is marketed as NSF certified. Of the 9 Whirlpool-platform filters in our sample, 3 resolve as certified for the exact model sold, and all 3 are certified to NSF/ANSI 42 only. None of the nine holds NSF/ANSI 53, the standard under which lead reduction is certified.

The short version

  • 3 of the 9 Whirlpool-platform filters in our sample (33%) are certified for the exact model sold: Waterdrop WD-F38, Mist EDR1RXD1 and HMASAV W10295370A. All three are NSF/ANSI 42 only.
  • None of the 9 holds NSF/ANSI 53, so no Whirlpool-platform filter in our set carries a verified lead-reduction certification.
  • Whirlpool’s own EveryDrop Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) returned no listing under “Whirlpool”, “Whirlpool Corporation” or “everydrop” in any of the three databases on 2026-08-07.
  • 4 of the 9 returned no listing at all; 2 more come from AquaCrest, a brand with five NSF-certified models, neither of them the Whirlpool-market SKUs we checked.
  • Study-wide, 15 of 45 filters (33%) were confirmed certified for the exact model and 22 of 45 listings (49%) claim certifications the databases do not show.

What we searched for EDR1RXD1, and exactly what came back

We ran four searches for Whirlpool’s own filter, then repeated all of them sequentially. NSF’s drinking water treatment unit listings were queried under TradeName=everydrop and TradeName=whirlpool. IAPMO R&T’s product listing directory was queried under Listee Name Whirlpool and Whirlpool Corporation, and then under Listed Model EDR1RXD1. WQA’s product finder was queried for Whirlpool, everydrop, EDR1RXD1 and W10295370. An earlier pass in this project produced unreliable IAPMO results because two research agents were driving one shared browser session, so every one of these queries was re-run on 7 August 2026 in a single uncontended tab, with a full page reload between each. The result did not change.

What each database returned:

  • NSF. The Whirlpool trade name returns water softeners (NSF/ANSI 44) and reverse-osmosis systems (NSF/ANSI 58). Nothing in the drinking-water treatment unit category, and no reference to EDR1RXD1 or W10295370.
  • IAPMO R&T. A genuine “no data found” for both listee names, not a substring false negative. The model string EDR1RXD1 does appear in IAPMO, but only under Qingdao Ecopure Filter Co. Ltd, with NSF/ANSI 42 and 53. That is a compatible-filter manufacturer, not Whirlpool. It is not a listing for Whirlpool’s own filter.
  • WQA. One Whirlpool keyword hit, Water Channel Partners, a Canadian water-softener listing under CSA B483.1. Nothing for everydrop, EDR1RXD1 or W10295370.

So the honest verdict for the OEM filter is: not found in the public record. That is not the same statement as uncertified, and we do not make that one.

The likeliest explanation is a certificate-holder name, not a missing certification

Certification databases index the certificate holder, which is the company that paid for and holds the certification. That is often not the brand on the box. Our protocol therefore checked corporate names for every OEM row, not just retail names: for Whirlpool, both “Whirlpool” and “Whirlpool Corporation”.

GE is the demonstration of how much that matters. In NSF’s database, neither GE model matched: not among the 257 GE-tagged rows, and not under General Electric or GE Appliances, which looked like a clean negative. IAPMO then listed both GE OEM filters, XWFE and RPWFE, under “GE Appliances, A Haier Company”, the certificate-holder name registered after GE Appliances was sold to Haier in 2016. Both came back certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 372, 401 and P473. One corporate-name variant flipped the verdict. The full comparison is in our GE XWFE and RPWFE certification page.

Whirlpool may be the same story with the corporate name we have not yet found. Two Whirlpool-related data points point that way. EveryDrop Filter 1’s model number is in IAPMO with a 42 and 53 certification attached, just under a filter manufacturer’s name rather than Whirlpool’s. And most other OEM brands we checked eventually resolved to a registered certificate holder once we found the right name: GE under Haier, Samsung Electronics and Electrolux Home Products under their own corporate listings.

LG is the counterpart case: LG’s two OEM filters stayed unresolved under both “LG” and “LG Electronics” after a clean re-check, the same gap Whirlpool shows, with less reason to expect a resolution. See the LG refrigerator filter certification page for that pattern side by side.

Three Whirlpool-compatible filters are certified, and all three are NSF/ANSI 42 only

Every certified Whirlpool-platform filter in our set traces to NSF’s database, and every one of them covers chlorine reduction and material safety only:

  • Waterdrop WD-F38, listed as element WD-F38 (and WD-F38-AL) on Waterdrop file EFF-6038S1, manufacturer Qingdao Ecopure Filter Co., Ltd., certified NSF/ANSI 42. The listing claims “NSF 42 and NSF 372 certifications”. NSF/ANSI 372 does not appear for this element in the DWTU listing, and 372 is a separate lead-content program that is not always co-listed, so we recorded the claim as overstating.
  • Mist EDR1RXD1. The Mist trade name, a manufacturer in Lakewood, New Jersey, carries 21 models in the CWMF001 to CWMF052 family, all certified NSF/ANSI 42 only. The listing’s claim, “Tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 42”, matches what NSF shows. One caveat: the EDR1RXD1-branded product was not cross-walked to a specific CWMF element code in our pass.
  • HMASAV W10295370A replacement. Trade name HMASAV, manufacturer Shenzhen Jiquanlin Water Purification Technology Co., Ltd., 32 HM-prefixed models, all NSF/ANSI 42 only. The listing cites “NSF 42 certification (Certificate C0791840, NSF International, 2023)”. NSF’s public site exposes no certificate-number lookup, so the trade name is confirmed but that specific certificate number is not independently checkable.

An NSF/ANSI 42 listing alone does not cover lead

NSF/ANSI 42 covers aesthetic effects, chiefly chlorine taste and odour, particulate reduction, and material safety. NSF/ANSI 53 covers health effects, and lead reduction is certified under 53. This is the single most consequential distinction on this page: a filter whose only verified listing is 42-only has no verified lead reduction, whatever else its packaging says.

That matters more for this platform than for any other in our study. Study-wide, 5 of 45 filters held NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 together. None of them is Whirlpool-compatible. If lead removal is your reason for buying a fridge filter, the Whirlpool Filter 1 replacement market in our sample offers nothing verifiable against 53, and the standard distinction is set out in our NSF 42 vs 53 vs 401 guide.

The only independent lab measurement of lead in refrigerator filters that we could find remains AHAM’s 2018 study, in which 32 of 32 counterfeit filters failed the NSF/ANSI lead standard at twice rated life, and a separate 46-filter batch leached ten compounds above allowable concentrations into clean water. Those were known counterfeits, not the general aftermarket, and the study is now eight years old. Four of the nine returned no listing anywhere, including Whirlpool’s own filter

Alongside the OEM filter, three aftermarket SKUs produced nothing on any database, and one of them makes no claim at all:

  • Pureline EDR1RXD1 replacement claims “Independently tested and certified for NSF-42 and NSF-372”. NSF returned no match for the Pureline trade name. IAPMO returned no data under Additional Company/Trade Name. WQA does hold an entity called Pureline Treatment Systems, LLC, but its listings are NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 for chemical generators, plus NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 and 61, which are disinfection chemical products. That is a different category, and our files record it as not confirmed to be the same company. The brand’s GE-compatible XWF replacement showed the same pattern, and we recorded the same entity as ruled out. Both are classified as overstating.
  • ICEPURE RWF0500A, listed against Whirlpool 4396508, claims “NSF 42, 372 certified”. NSF returned nothing under the Icepure trade name. IAPMO shows “Icepure” as an additional company or trade name under TOP PURE USA INC, but for NSF/ANSI/CAN 50-2024, which covers pool and spa equipment, and CSA B483.1. Neither is NSF/ANSI 42 or 53. To be fair to the brand, three Icepure SKUs on the GE platform did resolve during the sequential re-check: RWF5200A for NSF/ANSI 42 plus 372, and RWF3600A and RWF1500A for 372 only. The brand has real listings. This model does not.
  • The generic “Generation” three-pack for W10295370A carries no certification claim in the listing at all, and no brand name to search. We record two separate facts: no claim was made, and nothing was found. Neither is an accusation.

A filter outside all three databases is unverifiable by a buyer, which is a different and narrower statement than unverified claims usually get. It means no public record exists that a shopper, a journalist or a regulator can point to, using the tools that exist.

AquaCrest’s two Whirlpool-market SKUs are brand-certified but model-absent

AquaCrest is a genuinely NSF-listed brand. Exactly five of its models appear in NSF’s database: EFF-6008S1/AQF-FF08, EFF-6032S/AQF-FF32D, EFF-6038S1/AQF-FF38, AQF-FF12 and EFF-6002S/AQF-FF15. All five are certified NSF/ANSI 42 only.

AQF-4396508 and AQF-4396701 are not among them, and WQA returns no AquaCrest trade-name match. Both are classified as brand-listed, model-absent, and both are recorded as overstating. One accuracy note: for these two SKUs the claim was captured at brand-collection level from AquaCrest’s Whirlpool filter page rather than as a per-listing verbatim quote, so the delta wording is our classification of the brand’s sitewide language, not a quoted sentence from a product page. The pattern is common enough to have its own page: AquaCrest NSF certification.

The same structural pattern sank every AquaCrest SKU in the wider study, which is why 14 of 45 filters overall (31%) sit in the brand-listed, model-absent bucket.

EDR1RXD1, W10295370A, EDR4RXD1 and EDR2RXD1 are different filters

Whirlpool’s filter lineup does not share a housing across the code families, and the codes are not interchangeable:

  • EveryDrop Filter 1 is EDR1RXD1. Our fitment index records Filter 1 and W10295370 as the same family, which is why the HMASAV listing markets itself as a W10295370A replacement for the same fridges.
  • EveryDrop Filter 4 is EDR4RXD1, also sold as UKF8001.
  • EveryDrop Filter 2 is EDR2RXD1.

Our verification covers Filter 1 replacements only. No SKU in the 45-filter frame matches Filter 4 or Filter 2, so we can say nothing at all about certification for those two codes, and the certification state of their aftermarket market is an open question rather than a finding.

Whirlpool’s anti-counterfeit program makes the same traceability point

Whirlpool operates an anti-counterfeit program warning that fake versions of its own OEM filters circulate on major marketplaces. Whirlpool and GE have also pursued trademark-infringement cases against filter sellers, including Pricebreak and TST Water, in litigation running from 2016 into 2023 and beyond. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has seized counterfeit water filter shipments repeatedly: 5,202 units at Los Angeles/Long Beach in 2019, 29,056 units of the GlacialPure brand in Baltimore in 2022, and 3,940 units at Los Angeles/Long Beach in 2023. Those seizures rest on trademark and certification-mark infringement. CBP does not measure contaminant removal, and the lead-failure numbers frequently attributed to CBP trace back to the 2018 AHAM study instead.

The reason we keep those two things apart is that they answer different questions. A seizure record says a product was fake. A database search says whether a certification can be traced. EDR1RXD1 came back negative on the second question, and we have no primary source that calls it counterfeit. Six of the ten Whirlpool fridges in our index take Filter 1

Our fitment index lists 10 Whirlpool refrigerators among its 50 models. Six are side-by-sides on EveryDrop Filter 1 (WRS325SDHZ, WRS588FIHZ, WRS321SDHZ, WRS571CIHZ, WRS555SIHZ and the value-tier WRS315SDHM). Two are French-door models on Filter 4, WRF555SDFZ and WRX735SDHZ. Two more, WRF767SDHZ and the counter-depth WRF954CIHZ, take Filter 2.

What we could not determine

  • Whether Whirlpool’s OEM EDR1RXD1 is certified under a name we did not try. “Not found in the public record” is the finding. It is not a finding of uncertified, and the Qingdao Ecopure entry shows the model number itself carries certifications under someone else’s name.
  • Mist’s exact element code. The brand’s 21 CWMF models are certified NSF/ANSI 42 only, but the EDR1RXD1-branded product was not cross-walked to one of them, so the specific product-level match rests on the trade name.
  • HMASAV certificate C0791840. NSF’s public search UI exposes no certificate-number lookup, so the most checkable claim in the entire sample could not be checked.
  • The two AquaCrest SKUs’ per-listing wording, which was captured at brand-collection level rather than verbatim.
  • ICEPURE RWF0500A, which shares a corporate filer with three Icepure SKUs that did resolve. A clean IAPMO pass keyed to the exact model might change this row.
  • Every Drop Filter 4 and Filter 2, which are outside our sample frame entirely.
  • Everything on this page is as of 7 August 2026. Certification listings change, and our protocol indexes by certificate holder, so a filter certified under an unlisted contract manufacturer would be missed.
